The PFA has been busy this past year with Directors and members attending hundreds of hours of meetings, advocating for your access to sustainable public fisheries.
There has been no shortage of topics to discuss in 2025; glass sponge reef marine refuge closures, Southern Resident Killer Whale management measures resulting in current fishing closures and more proposed closures for 2026, marine protected area proposed closures, and now the review of the Salmon Allocation Policy.
All these issues are direct threats to your access to sustainable fisheries but none are more important than the Salmon Allocation Policy (SAP) review. The SAP, once finalized, will impact how salmon are managed on behalf of the public for years to come.

There is an excellent summary of the process at Salmon Forever including DFO’s SAP Review Discussion Paper and the Sport Fish Advisory Board SAP Review Perspectives and Submission. We urge you to read these documents, and when you read the DFO SAP Review Discussion Paper, it becomes abundantly clear that First Nations and Commercial interests are aligned in asking for the Public Fishery to be put dead last. We must not let this happen. We must fight for and maintain salmon’s status as a common property resource. Your ability to go fishing and harvest a fish where sustainable surplus allows, must be put above commercial interests.
As such, we are heading to Ottawa to talk to the politicians about common property resource being an overarching principle in the SAP, as well as discussing the other important issues listed above.

Here is how you can help and make a difference:
